8 biggest makeup mistakes that age you

Hey lovelies!!!

Wow did I miss you guys, I feel like I haven’t actually sat down and posted in awhile even though it was yesterday. I’ve been posting through my phone a lot lately just because I’ve been so busy, I finally had some free time to actually sit down in front of the computer so I decided to spend that free time blogging for my beauties!

With that being said lets get into it, I’m going to be talking about 8 makeup mistakes that would age you quickly. We all know the chemicals in our makeup is pretty bad for our skin, so its so important that we are extremely careful when applying our makeup etc.

It’s not called a beauty “routine” for nothing: Once we find a set of makeup products we like—say, in our 20s—too many of us avoid switching things up, sometimes for years on end. In fact, in a recent Prevention.com poll, over 30% of respondents said they “hadn’t changed a thing” about their beauty routine in more than 10 years! Meanwhile, trends evolve, colors go in and out of style, and the products and application techniques that flatter young, firm skin do us no favors as we age—not to mention, many of us just aren’t sure how to minimize fine lines, dark circles, and other signs of aging in a way that’s fresh and flattering.

Foundation foul-up

When fine lines settle in and sun spots multiply, many women reach for foundation, layering it on like it’s going out of style. Unfortunately, instead of hiding imperfections, the more-is-better strategy brings attention to them. Excess product has nowhere to go but to settle into creases, which exaggerates wrinkles, and thick layers piled on top of each other create a dated, masklike complexion.

For smooth, flawless-looking skin, choose a lightweight liquid foundation over a powder. Look for an easy-absorbing fluid formula such as Maybelline New York Fit Me! Foundation ($8; drugstores); it moisturizes skin and is easier to blend than powders, which can turn chalky and leave behind a dull, flat finish, a trait we associate with older skin. Squeeze a nickel-size amount in your palm and rub it on like you would a moisturizer. Applying with your fingers instead of a brush eliminates the chance of product overload.

Caked-on concealer

The problem arises when women use the same trusty spot concealer for other issues, such as hiding dark under-eye circles. A cover-up that’s thick enough to hide a pimple is likely to have a tacky, heavy consistency that’s too rich for the delicate thin skin under the eyes. Instead, use a sheer formula such as Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Fast Fix Concealer Inspired by Carmindy ($9; drugstores) to camouflage circles. Tap on with a concealer brush and blend with your finger for the most natural finish, and you’ll foil signs of exhaustion without compromising a youthful appearance.

Runny mascara

While waterproof mascara is less prone to smudging, the stronger formulas can dry out lashes, which can become thinner and more fragile as we age. To get full-looking lashes these 2 tips will help

  1. To give the illusion that skimpy lashes are thick, smudge a chocolate brown eyebrow pencil like CoverGirl Brow & Eye Makers Pencil in midnight brown ($4; drugstores) along the roots of the lash line.
  2. To coat and seal delicate lashes, choose a gentle mascara such as Blinc Mascara ($25; blincinc.com). It’s made with polymers that form a tube around each lash to prevent smudging, yet it comes off easily with warm water.
Metallic lids

Like the ’80s obsession with perms, every trend must come to an end. One of the hardest for women to kick: frosty eye shadow. When eyelids become less taut, usually around age 40, it’s time to graduate from the glitter. Shimmer shadows settle into crinkles, magnifying crepey lids.

Matte shadows such as Maybelline ExpertWear Eyeshadow in pink petal ($4; drugstores), on the other hand, are extremely flattering. Taupes, lavenders, soft peaches, and grays work on all skin tones. Want to up the drama? Incorporate eyeliner in a jewel tone such as garnet or plum for a pop of color. To create the illusion of a lifted eye, avoid heavy liner on the bottom lash and apply it to the upper, outer corners of the eyes.

 Vampire red lips

It’s an age-old fact: a dark color, be it on your floor, wall, or even lips, makes any surface area look smaller. Because lips naturally lose fullness over time, the last thing we want to do is shrink them. Plus, deep hues make teeth look less white. For lips that look juicy, wear vibrant lip glosses and lipsticks. To instantly update your look, slick on a sheer version of popular lip colors such as coral or hibiscus—try CoverGirl NatureLuxe Gloss Balm ($6; drugstores), a line that’s full of fresh, youthful shades.

Sunken cheeks

Women always choose blah cheek colors because they’re afraid of color. The reality is that bright blush actually brings youth and vitality to the face, helping to restore the look of fullness to sallow cheeks. Ditch dusty browns and roses and go for a cream formula in a floral shade. Creams blend better than powders and add the extra moisture mature skin needs.

One to try: Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain in Forever Pink ($25; shop.janeiredale.com). To apply, start by positioning your brush higher on the cheeks, then blend the blush downward toward the apples. This technique creates a more modern finish, compared with the pink stripes up to the temples that were popular back in the day.

Overplucked Brows

It’s important to resist the urge to overpluck brows, especially as we age. Overtweezing can make brows disappear entirely, and those strands may never grow back. Thankfully, there are brow pencils and powders like Sonia Kashuk Arch Alert Brow Kit ($10; Target) that can bring sparse hairs back to their fullest potential.

To apply, start at the inner brow and work your way outward using a stiff, angled brush or sharp brow pencil, whichever you prefer, and make short, feathery strokes.

Powder overload

There’s a fine line between glowing and greasy skin, and many of us aren’t sure where it is. The biggest mistake women make when trying to control shine is forgetting to leave a little of that natural glow. One too many pats of powder can wash out the dimension from your face. A little glisten makes you look fresh.

To tone down oil without going overboard, use a lightweight pressed powder containing oil-absorbing mica and silica like makeup artist favorite MAC Blot Powder Pressed ($24; maccosmetics.com). Dust it on with a small blush-size powder brush rather than a big dome brush, which can dump powder like a bulldozer. For touch-ups throughout the day, I recommend using the compact’s puff and tapping it onto, rather than rubbing it across, the skin, a technique that promises to deposit just enough product without crossing the line.

I hope all you loves enjoyed! Cause I enjoyed giving you these tips!:)

seven ways to overcome anxiety

Not your regular beauty post but I feel like this is extremely important, I suffer from severe anxiety its always been something that I never showed anyone and just sort of tried to deal with on my own but eventually realized that wasn’t the way to go. These steps helped me so much

1. Realize it’s all in your head

Anxiety is when something is going on internally, usually as a result of a traumatic or painful event. You then carry forward this negativity and when this negativity is ignored, anxiety comes to life.

This is why anxiety gives you physical symptoms. Your inner voice is trying to tell you that you are hurt, that you need to stop and heal. When you aren’t listening to it, it uses physical symptoms to get your attention.

Does it scare you when you feel like you cannot breathe? Or perhaps you feel like you are going to vomit any minute? The thing to remember is it’s not real. No matter how real it feels, it is actually your mind playing tricks on you.

One of my symptoms was my heart racing. I felt like my heart was racing so fast I would have a heart attack (and that line of thinking was not helping). But when I realized that it wasn’t real, I started to remind myself of this. When it started happening, I put a hand on my heart, only to find my heart wasn’t racing that fast at all.

So the next time an anxiety attack comes on, remember that this is just a trick from your inner consciousness. Allow yourself to pause, close your eyes and remind yourself, “I’m OK.”

2. Ask yourself what the message is

As mentioned in my previous point, anxiety is your inner consciousness trying to tell you that you are hurting. To overcome anxiety you need to find out what your inner consciousness is trying to tell you. You need to find out what the message is.

The next time you are having an anxiety attack, stop and listen. Just close your eyes, breathe and ask yourself kindly, “What’s the message?”

What is it you need to learn from this? Because this is what anxiety is, a message. A message to teach you to realize a better way of thinking, or a better attitude you can apply.

For me, I was choosing to ignore my emotions at a deeper level. I was getting on with my everyday life, ignoring the fact that I was not happy with my job, nor my home life. I wrongly chose to ignore the fact I was hurting; that I wanted a different job and that I was struggling living with my parents (as much as I truly love them) I struggled to face my emotions. I felt I had no time to face them and just needed to carry on with my everyday life.

Of course, that was the wrong decision to make, because bottling up my emotions was the worst thing I could do. So when the anxiety attacks started happening more and more, I started to replace my thoughts of, “Stop, go away, I don’t have time for this,” with, “What’s the message?”

Because that is the key. You need to focus on you, to look deep inside and ask yourself, “What is it that upsets me? What is the message I am trying to tell myself?”

3. Embrace the anxiety

You heard me right, embrace the anxiety. This might seem like a daunting task, but when you panic during an attack it only feeds the anxiety. To overcome anxiety, you must learn to embrace it.

When you have an attack, choose to be loving towards yourself. Do not start saying, “Why does this have to happen to me?” or “Leave me alone, I don’t have time for this.” Instead, be kind to yourself and say, “It’s OK, I’m listening.”

Embrace the anxiety with love and show yourself that you are there to listen. Treat yourself the same way you’d want to be treated by someone else, with love and care. Anxiety is your inner voice shouting to you, asking that you address the issues you are facing. Once you start embracing the anxiety, you will start to feel the panic fade away.

4. Take time for yourself

Now that you know what anxiety is, you need to start addressing the cause. This means that you need to take the time for yourself: to be with yourself and focus on thinking about what is going on deep inside.

This is an excellent time to use meditation to help overcome these issues. Meditation is a great method to use because it looks deeper into your soul, not just at the surface layer.

If you haven’t meditated before, you can start off with just five minutes. Set a timer, then close your eyes. Focus on taking long, deep breaths — from your stomach and not through your lungs (this deep breathing is great for coping with panic attacks something I also have). As you take deep breaths, feel your body parts relax one by one with each breath. Allow your mind to wander. Imagine you are looking at a blue sky. As your mind wanders, let the thoughts run through your mind. Imagine that each thought is drifting across the sky. Let each one drift by, but do not interact with it. Allow your mind to wander with each thought, just listening to what it says.

The important thing is to listen to your thoughts without judgment or letting your fears take them over. When I started using meditation to overcome anxiety, I allowed my mind to start asking questions regarding my anxiety. I would kindly ask myself questions like, “What triggered my last anxiety attack?” and “What was it that scared me?” By asking these questions, I was able to follow my thoughts deeper and deeper, pinpointing the cause.

5. Force yourself out there

One of the struggles I had with anxiety was interacting with others. Being around others panicked me as I often felt disconnected from conversation, which frustrated me greatly. This meant I wanted to spend more time alone, to avoid facing these issues.

Although it is helpful in the early stages to take time for yourself, there comes a point when you need to interact again. The longer you leave it, the worse it will be.

If you find that it is a struggle to leave your home, start off small. Start by going to visit a close friend or family. Prove to yourself that you will be OK if you go out, that your fear is overrated. Once you start going out more and more, you’ll soon begin to realize that it is OK.

Additional tip: A great way to cope with anxiety attacks is to distract your mouth. Focus on sipping a drink or suck on a hard-boiled sweet. I found that this helped me calm down.

6. Talk to someone

It’s always good to talk to someone about your anxiety, as voicing it aloud can help make more sense. Talk to a close friend or family member about what you are going through.

I found that talking to my partner about it eased my mind a little. He was able to provide me with some ideas I hadn’t thought about, whilst helping me feel supported.

And even if you don’t feel like there is anyone you can talk to, there is still plenty of support online. Just do a search for anxiety support and you’ll find many useful forums and online chats. There you can speak to many others who know what you are going through.

7. Find inspiration to overcome anxiety

My final bit of advice is to find inspiration. For me, Its makeup I feel at ease when I make myself all dolled up. It  helped lift my spirits and motivate me in overcoming my anxiety. It would help remind me that I could get through it and live a happy life again.

So find someone/something that inspires or motivates you and use that. Use something you love or someones attitude, their music, or stories of their own struggles, and see that you can become better too.

If you don’t have someone that inspires you, then look online. Simply do a Google image search for positivity quotes and you’ll find tons of inspiring quotes. Or do a search on Lifehack for quotes and you’ll be overwhelmed with the amount of powerful quotes at hand.

Now you know what anxiety is and what you can do to overcome it, you are well on your way. Remember that you aren’t alone, there are many people out there dealing with anxiety too.

I truly believe you can overcome anxiety. You are stronger than you may think!

Ladies talk…

Hey ladies, so today im going to be doing something completely different, I feel like this is a huge world wide problem and it needs to be talked about especially anyone who puts themselves out there through social media. Last night I came across someones instagram and I decided to look through her comments, shes also a makeup artist and there were ALOT of bashing comments about some flaws that she had even though I thought she was absolutely gorgeous… This is defs a world wide problem and I myself have been through it in elementary I got bashed and bullied alot for flaws I had and that made me extremely insecure for the longest time, yes it was ‘just elementary, it shouldnt bother you’ but since when was it even okay to bully or to leave negative comments on someones instagram etc? Oh yeah… Never… It sticks with us no matter what age we are I was even iffy about putting myself out there through social media and blogging because I know that any negative comment will effect me and bother me ,but at the end of the day I just thought to myself if they feel the need to bash anyone then they must be insecure with themselves so why give them the satisfaction of letting them know that what there saying is affecting you, thats just not worth it. I put my insecuries from bullying to rest because I know who I am.. Am I the most beautiful girl in the world? Definitely not, but one thing I do have is an amazing heart, and thats good enough for me. I’m not going to shape myself in a way to satify anyones view on me, and neither should any of you other girls. You’re all beautiful just the way you are and just know that anyone who leaves negative comments on any social media is just insecure with themselves, are the good looking? Maybe or maybe not but Do they have a good heart? Clearly not, and to me thats more important then being considered ‘beautiful’ to someone. I feel like thats why I decided to do clothing and makeup because I love to make anyone who has been bullied and is insecure feel better about themselves through looking at themselves in the mirror with makeup and expressing themselves through clothing.. Thats huge for me. Even though I STRONGLY believe that everyone is beautiful without makeup and that to putting their insecurities to rest it has to be done on the inside, it just feels good to be able to put it to rest for a day ( I turned to makeup to feel ‘beautiful’ before).

I’m beautiful, and so are you.

32 makeup tips that nobody told you about

Extremely sorry for the late post, as I promised I was going to post yesterday night but ended up being super busy.. with that being said I decided to make todays post longer.

1.Repurposed plastic spoon

Use a plastic spoon to easily apply mascara on your bottom lashes without getting any on the skin under your eyes. It also helps you to accomplish a much thicker coat. If you find your under eyes to be a complete mess after applying eyeshadow and mascara, try it out!

2. Blush for your face type

In order to apply blush where it will be most flattering on you, first determine your face shape. Blush not only adds color, but also contours and defines your cheek bones. The way you apply your blush can accentuate your best features and also soften those that are perhaps too prominent.

blush

3. Scotch tape eye stencil

This unconventional beauty aid will help guide you when applying eye liner and shadows, especially if you’re going for a more daring look such as the “cat eye”. It will also help you achieve an even and balanced look for both eyes.

4.Disguising under eye bags

Most of us tend to just sweep a layer of concealer to the entire under eye area, but to really conceal bags, it’s best to highlight the crease and then apply a darker shade to the actual puffy area.

5. Eye highlights

The placement of highlights is very important when trying to create naturally beautiful eye makeup. Your lighter colors (whites, creams, and pearls) should be applied to the inner corners, the middle of the eye, and just under your brow bone. Apply your lightest colors first, and then move on to your darker shades.

6. How to fix clumpy mascara

Let’s face it, this happens to every tube of mascara over time. The problem is it dries out and then starts to form unattractive lumps. To help prevent this, don’t pump your mascara trying to get more on your wand; you’re basically pumping air into the tube causing it to dry out even faster.

Although mascara should be replaced every 3 to 4 months, I used to replace mine much sooner just because it dries out so fast and creates undesirable results. But, there’s an easy fix for that! Add a drop or two of Visine (or any brand of eye drops) into the tube, and then rub the wand around inside. The Visine softens the mascara liquid, making it apply as if it were a brand new tube!

7. Lipstick ready

Use a baby toothbrush to exfoliate your lips. To really get the job done, you can make a homemade lip exfoliate with sugar, honey and coconut oil, or easier but not as effective, cover your lips in lip balm or petroleum jelly before scrubbing.

8. Make the best of your eye shape

As important as your color choices are, the placement of your shadows and liners is just as critical; you can create just about any illusion that you want. With careful placement, you can make your eyes appear wider, closer set, more prominent, deeper set, etc. Determine what shape of eyes you have, and then accentuate them accordingly.

eyes.jpg

9. Make eyes appear bigger

If you don’t already own a nude pencil, invest in one now just for this simple trick! Instead of lining your water line with dark eyeliner, use a nude pencil to create the illusion of a bigger eye. If you squint your eyes a little at this picture comparison, you’ll see what a difference it really makes. A white liner also works well if you are really fair-skinned.

10. Tightlinging

What is tightlining? It’s a way of applying your liner right in between your lashes. This is a great way to appear as though you’re not wearing any makeup at all, yet adding a little bit of color and definition to your eyes, and making the base of your lashes appear thicker.

11. Make eyeshadow pop

Have you ever purchased a vibrant color of shadow that once applied appears rather dull? The key to making those colors pop is a white base. Use a white eyeliner and cover your entire lid before applying the color of your choice.

12. The false eyelash look

False lashes can be a pain, not to mention time consuming! Here are a few ways to get the look without the hassle:

1. After curling your lashes, apply a thin layer of powder before applying your mascara. I just sweep a small blending brush across my compact and apply it to the top and bottom of my eyelashes. I’ve also heard that some people use baby powder, although I think they both have virtually the same effect; creating a base that makes them appear much fuller.

2. Apply two coats of mascara to the bottom and TOP side of your lashes, but wait 3-5 minutes in between each coat, otherwise they tend to get clumpy (not cute).

3. When applying your mascara, you don’t want to just move your mascara wand from the base of your lashes up. Make sure you are moving the mascara wand back and forth while going up. The left and right motion will make sure every lash is covered entirely, all the way to the tip.

4. Almost done! Now, check your lashes for any gaps. Use the tip of your wand to apply another coat of mascara to individual lashes where they look sparse. Even better, use a fine tipped liquid eyeliner to fine tune and fill in any gaps.

13. Lash curling secret

Get the most out of your lash curler by pinching at the very base of  your lashes, and then lifting the curler up into an inverted position. This creates double the curl and lasts much longer!

14. Heat the lash curler

Hold a blow dryer up next to your lash curler for about 3-5 seconds. The heat works the same way as it does with your curling iron, giving you those flirty lashes that will last all day.

15. The perfect match

This is the one thing that no matter how well it’s applied, if it’s the wrong color, it will look terrible! We all dread that our foundation will give us a ghost face or even worse, that dreaded orange jaw line. Because your neck isn’t exposed to the sun as much as your face, it is much better for matching your true color.

16. Business card trick

When applying mascara, hold a business card behind your lashes and apply it in a back and forth motion starting at the roots. You can really put it on this way, coating every lash fast!

17. Secret eye lift

Sweep a light pink matte pencil across the entire length of your brow bone to create the illusion of a higher arch, and then blend, blend, blend! It should not be detectable.

18.Proper contouring

When applied right, contouring can define your cheekbones and jaw line, reduce the look of a double chin, minimize a larger nose, and lift sagging eyes. It’s basically using makeup to highlight and accentuate your features. This is especially important for photos, as the camera tends to pick up shadows and highlights better than the naked eye.

There are actual contouring and highlighting kits (this one has the best reviews) made just for this, but you can also use a bronzer or powder that is a few shades darker than your skin, and a foundation that is a few shades lighter for highlighting. For the most part, your t-zone and under eye area is where you want to highlight, and the outer portion of your face, underneath your cheekbones, and your neck is where you want to define with a darker color. Keep in mind, blending is key for a natural look! This may take some practice at first.

contouring

19. The line saver

I’m always having to check my eyeliner because sometimes it starts to stray from where it was placed, especially in the summer months. Certain eyeliners are more prone to this, especially those that aren’t water proof, but I don’t like using waterproof makeup because it’s so darn hard to get off! I always feel like I’m ripping my lashes off in the removal process. To keep your liner behaving, sweep loose or pressed powder right underneath the eyeliner on your bottom lid. It creates somewhat of a barrier, preventing your eyeliner from traveling downward.

20. The lip cheat

As it turns out, we weren’t all blessed with Angelina Jolie’s lush lips. Now, there are a few tricks to making them appear larger (a glossy lip being one), but for a more dramatic effect, don’t be afraid to line your lips just outside of your natural line. When I say just outside of your natural line, I mean slightly. You don’t want to look like a clown by over doing it!

21. Downward strokes

Although you want to wash your face and apply your moisturizer with upwards strokes to help lessen fine lines and a sagging face, the opposite is true for foundation and powder. Most of us have a little bit of hair on our face, and it tends to grow downwards. If you apply your makeup with upward strokes, it will cause your “peach fuzz” to stick strait up, making it more noticeable.

22. Eyebrows and face shape

A lot of us ignore our eyebrows (or have over plucked them into non-existence) not realizing how important they are in defining our face. There isn’t one shape that is the best, it really just depends on your unique facial features and shape. Just like contouring, your eyebrow shape and thickness can help soften your face shape.

brows.jpg

23. DIY tinted moisturizer

This works just as well as a B&B cream, hiding imperfections with a really natural look; simply mix your favorite facial moisturizer with a little bit of concealer. This way you can customize it with just the right amount of coverage.

24. Instant eye lift

This quick and easy illusion will give you an instant eye life. Draw an arch directly above your eyebrow with your favorite highlighter, and blend with your finger. This makes your arch look raised, making the whole eye area look like it has been lifted.

25. Wash and save your wands

Instead of tossing them in the trash when your mascara expires, wash and repurpose those wands! You can use them as an eyebrow brush, even applying a bit of color before sweeping across your brows. Or, spray with hairspray and use them to brush and keep your eyebrows in place.

26. Clump free lashes

It may seem like a waste, but if you want clump-free lashes (so hard to achieve, right?!) , you have to wipe your mascara wand off on a tissue before each application. This way you can apply several coats seamlessly.

27. Blemish secret

Instead of using that bulky tube of concealer to cover your blemishes, rub a bit of it on an eyeliner brush (or any slender brush) for more precise control. Don’t forget to blend the edges with your finger!

28. Soften the line

Although I like liquid liner and its ability to really define the eyes, I’m not really a fan of the harshness of it. And, if it’s not applied perfectly, imperfections really stand out. To soften the look, sweep a metallic brown shadow over the liner. This not only diminishes the hard-line, but also helps hide imperfections.

29. Make it last

Keep those lips kissable by sealing the deal. After your lipstick is applied, hold a tissue over your lips and apply powder over the tissue. This creates a matte look that lasts much longer.

30. False eyelashes 101

If you’ve ever attempted this beauty-aid, you know that it can be quite trying! But, false eye lashes can bring your look from drab to fab in just a few patient minutes, and is definitely worth the time for special occasions. The key is knowing how to apply them from the get-go, otherwise your frustration will prevail.

31. The 3D lip effect

So simple and stunning! Use your finger to stamp a little bit of frosted blush or eye shadow to the center of your bottom and top lip.

32. When to toss it

As much money as we spend on our beauty products, it’s hard to let it go, but at some point your makeup becomes unhealthy for your skin and eyes. This is especially true for anything that gets applied around your eyes, so it’s important to give your makeup drawer a good clean out every once in a while.
